Introduction:
Grace Lutheran Church is a community of Lutheran Christians who gather around the proclamation of God’s truth as revealed in Jesus Christ. We are seeking a part-time secretary/receptionist to offer office management, reception, public relations and worship support for clergy, staff and volunteers. This is an on-site position, at the office in the church building at E. 18th and Hilyard St. in Eugene’s West University neighborhood. Qualifications:
Administrative/office experience or relevant transferable skills
Proficient with Microsoft Office and working knowledge of standard office equipment. Open to learning new systems and skills.
Possess organizational skills with attention to details; independently able to manage time and resources.
Appreciate the importance of administrative support to the creative, spiritual and interpersonal work of the church.
Work well with frequent interruptions. Proficient at prioritizing.
Strong communication and collaboration skills. Is expected to be compassionate, friendly and professional in working closely with pastor, staff, church members and community partners.
Expected to support the mission and ministry of Grace Lutheran Church.
Personal integrity and ability to exercise confidentiality.
Responsibilities:
Serve as receptionist during office hours, answering phones and responding to email messages. Will interact with church members and visitors, answer questions and provide information, as needed.
Produce weekly service bulletin, monthly newsletter, and other communications with members.
Maintain database of church members, and publish annual church directory.
Maintain church calendar of events/activities. Provide assistance coordinating volunteers for church activities, as needed.
Perform clerical tasks: proofreading, filing, managing email, preparing materials for mailing, sorting mail, taking messages for pastor and staff. Operate office machines and maintain inventory of office supplies.
Employment details:
The secretary/receptionist works 20 hours per week, ensuring coverage of the church’s office hours (Tuesday-Friday, 9:00 am to 2:00 pm). The position reports directly to Grace’s Pastor, and is overseen by the church’s Personnel Committee.
A paid lunch break of 30 minutes will be given.
Benefits:
This position’s starting wage is $17.00 hour for 20 hours a week.
One week (20 hours) of paid personal time off per year as approved by the supervisor will be provided. After one year of employment and with prior approval, a minimum of two additional weeks per year of unpaid personal time off will be available for employee use, for a total of three weeks of leave (one paid week and two unpaid weeks).
This employee shall be paid for each of the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas (5 hours per holiday).
This part-time position does not include health insurance, retirement, or other similar benefits.
