Help make masks for medical COMMUNITY

3/24/2020

Many are sewing cloth medical masks for our hospitals and others.  These masks can help supplement their supplies, leaving the specialized masks for those caring for contagious people. These cloth masks can be sterilized and reused with patients who are less vulnerable.

I am calling on members of our church to help with this effort.  JoAnn Fabrics is preparing free kits with everything you need to make these masks.  All you need to do is pick them up, take them home, sew them together, and return them to JoAnns for delivery.  Those receiving them will sterilize them for use. Saying a prayer for those who will receive these masks while you are sewing them would be wonderful.

There is a JoAnn Fabrics store in Eugene at Greenacres and one in Springfield off of Mohawk.  I just picked up enough Free supplies to make 22 masks.  Because I can cut the masks myself, they gave me panels rather than cut to size fabric.

If you can’t sew, you can volunteer to help put the kits together by calling one of these stores.   Also, If you want to help, but need someone to pick up the kits for you, please call Todd Baker or Mick Koester to see who can help you.

it would be great if someone maybe from Outreach could look into how we might help them with cutting Fabric and putting some kits together for them.  The lady cutting the fabric for me said she had been helping cut fabric even though she really just went in to pick up some kits earlier.

Worship & Lenten Services Cancellation

3/13/2020

Dear Friends,
Grace, mercy, and peace are yours today through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit.
With the current health conditions surrounding the novel COVID-19, we have decided to cancel our worship services for the next two weeks. We will reevaluate the conditions and the projections from the Center for Disease Control and the recommendations of our government agencies at that time to determine when we will resume worship gatherings. This cancelation pertains to the regular Sunday worship and Wednesday Lenten worship. We plan to resume worship on March 29th as long as the situation allows. We will keep you updated regularly.  Check the website for audio sermons and other options for worshiping at home. www.glchurch.org
As a pastor, I don’t take the cancelation of worship lightly. To say that we won’t be meeting for two weeks is difficult. I love worship, sharing the word, singing the hymns, and seeing all the saints gathered together. However, I love all of you so much that I don’t want to see you for two weeks. 😊 I want you to stay healthy. I want you to be safe. I want you to stay home.
As Christians who place their trust in God, we know for sure that He is present with us no matter where we are or what comes our way. He never leaves us or forsakes us. The salvation of Jesus Christ is sealed on our foreheads in baptism and confirmed at the table of our Lord. Even when we can’t be physically present with one another, by the work of the Holy Spirit, we are always connected to one another.
In the meantime, please pray with me: Lord of Heaven and Earth, for all those who presently suffer the effects of the virus, for all those who attend to the suffering, for doctors, nurses, hospital staff, researchers, administrators, and those who seek a cure, for those who make decisions regarding the general welfare of all people, for those whose hearts are fearful and anxieties are raised, for those who are weak and at risk, for Your church on Earth, that she may be a beacon of hope in anxious times, that she may be an example of trust, faith, service, and love to the neighbor, Lord, in Your mercy…hear our prayer.
In Christ,
Pastor Joe Baumgarten
