Please have me excused.&rsquo; [19] And another said, &lsquo;I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to examine them. [20] And at his gate was laid a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, [21] who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man&rsquo;s table. Moreover, even the dogs came and licked his sores. [22] The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham&rsquo;s side. The rich man also died and was buried, [23] and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham far off and Lazarus at his side. [24] And he called out, &lsquo;Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue, for I am in anguish in this flame.&rsquo; [25] But Abraham said, &lsquo;Child, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazarus in like manner bad things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. [2] This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, &ldquo;Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.&rdquo; [3] Jesus answered him, &ldquo;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.&rdquo; [4] Nicodemus said to him, &ldquo;How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother&rsquo;s womb and be born?&rdquo; [5] Jesus answered, &ldquo;Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. [6] That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. [7] Do not marvel that I said to you, &lsquo;You must be born again.&rsquo; [8] The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.&rdquo;</span><br /><br /><span>[9] Nicodemus said to him, &ldquo;How can these things be?&rdquo; [10] Jesus answered him, &ldquo;Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? [11] Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. [12] If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? [13] No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. We do not know what he is talking about.&rdquo; [19] Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, &ldquo;Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, &lsquo;A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me&rsquo;? [20] Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. [21] Jesus said to them again, &ldquo;Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.&rdquo; [22] And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, &ldquo;Receive the Holy Spirit. [23] If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.&rdquo;</span><br /><br /><strong><span><font size="3">Jesus and Thomas</font></span></strong><br /><br /><span>[24] Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. [25] So the other disciples told him, &ldquo;We have seen the Lord.&rdquo; But he said to them, &ldquo;Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.&rdquo;</span><br /><br /><span>[26] Eight days later, his disciples were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, &ldquo;Peace be with you.&rdquo; [27] Then he said to Thomas, &ldquo;Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.&rdquo; [28] Thomas answered him, &ldquo;My Lord and my God!&rdquo; [29] Jesus said to him, &ldquo;Have you believed because you have seen me?
